Protected by Design: Our Warranty & Instrument Care Promise

AHD International stands behind the quality of every dental, surgical, orthodontic, and beauty instrument we manufacture. This page explains exactly what our warranty covers, how to care for your instruments, and the specific causes of damage that will void coverage — so you can protect your investment and keep every instrument performing at a professional standard for years.

Our Warranty Promise

Every instrument leaving our Sialkot facility is individually inspected for material quality, tip precision, hinge tension, and finish before it ships. We stand behind that quality with a manufacturing defect warranty: if an instrument fails due to a genuine fault in material or workmanship under normal, intended clinical use, we will repair or replace it at no cost to you.

This policy also exists to protect you from a much more common problem than manufacturing defects: premature instrument failure caused by incorrect handling, cleaning, or sterilization. Surgical-grade stainless steel is durable, but it is not indestructible — the sections below explain exactly what damages instruments and how to avoid it.

What Our Warranty Covers

  • Material defects — stainless steel that does not meet the specified grade or hardness, confirmed by inspection.
  • Workmanship defects — hinge joints that are misaligned or loose from manufacturing, beak or blade tips that are ground off-center, or welds/joins that fail under normal use.
  • Premature finish failure — coating or plating (such as titanium or gold coatings) that flakes, peels, or discolors abnormally under correct sterilization practices, within the warranty period.
  • Functional failure under normal use — an instrument that cannot perform its intended clinical function due to a fault present at the time of manufacture.

Warranty Period & Validity

Our standard warranty covers manufacturing defects for 12 months from the date of invoice for all hand instruments (forceps, elevators, curettes, chisels, pliers, scissors, needle holders, and similar hand-held surgical/dental/beauty instruments). Coverage is valid only when:

  • The instrument was purchased directly from AHD International or an authorized distributor.
  • A valid proof of purchase (invoice number or order reference) is provided with the claim.
  • The instrument has been used, cleaned, and sterilized according to standard clinical protocols and the care guidance on this page.
  • The instrument has not been altered, resharpened by an unauthorized third party, or repaired outside our facility.

⚠ Critical: What Destroys Instruments or Makes Them Unusable

The following causes of damage are NOT covered under warranty, because they result from handling, cleaning, or storage conditions outside the manufacturer's control — not a manufacturing fault. Please read carefully, as these are the leading real-world causes of instrument failure we see reported.

  • Chloride and saline exposure — leaving instruments in contact with saline, blood, or chloride-based solutions (including some disinfectants) causes pitting corrosion that permanently damages the steel surface, even on surgical-grade stainless steel.
  • Chlorine bleach and incompatible chemicals — bleach, hydrogen peroxide at high concentration, and ammonia-based cleaners attack the passive chromium-oxide layer that protects stainless steel from rust, leading to rapid corrosion.
  • Dried blood, tissue, or debris — allowing organic material to dry onto an instrument before cleaning causes staining, pitting, and can permanently damage serrations, hinges, and box joints.
  • Improper or incomplete drying — residual moisture left on instruments after cleaning or sterilization causes water spotting and surface corrosion, particularly in hinge joints and serrations.
  • Overloading the autoclave or incorrect sterilization cycles — instruments sterilized while closed/locked, overcrowded trays, or cycles that do not reach validated temperature and time will damage finishes and can warp fine tips.
  • Mixing dissimilar metals during soaking or cleaning — placing stainless steel instruments in contact with other metals (including some aluminum trays) during prolonged soaking can trigger galvanic (electrolytic) corrosion.
  • Hard water and mineral deposits — rinsing or autoclaving with hard tap water leaves mineral deposits that etch the surface over repeated cycles; distilled or deionized water is required.
  • Abrasive cleaning tools — steel wool, wire brushes, or abrasive scouring pads scratch the protective surface finish and create micro-pitting where bacteria and corrosion both take hold.
  • Excessive mechanical force or using an instrument for the wrong purpose — using an elevator as a chisel, forcing forceps beyond their design tolerance, or prying with a delicate instrument bends shanks, cracks hinges, and fractures tips.
  • Dropping or impact damage — dropped instruments can develop hairline fractures, bent tips, or hinge misalignment that are not always visible but compromise safety and function.
  • Unauthorized sharpening or modification — resharpening at the wrong angle, by hand with unsuitable stones, or any aftermarket modification changes the instrument's geometry and voids coverage.
  • Normal wear and tear — dulling from routine use, cosmetic surface wear, and the need for periodic resharpening are expected maintenance items, not defects.

✓ Safe Handling, Cleaning & Storage Measures

Following correct reprocessing protocol is the single biggest factor in how long an instrument lasts. These measures protect both your instruments and your warranty eligibility:

  • Pre-rinse or pre-soak immediately after use in an enzymatic cleaning solution to prevent blood and debris from drying onto the instrument.
  • Clean with ultrasonic or manual washing using a soft brush, never an abrasive pad, and always with the instrument fully open so hinges and serrations are reached.
  • Rinse with distilled or deionized water rather than hard tap water to avoid mineral deposits and spotting.
  • Dry completely with a lint-free cloth or validated drying cycle before sterilization or storage — never leave instruments wet.
  • Sterilize with a validated autoclave cycle at the correct temperature (typically 134°C) and time, with instruments open/unlocked so steam reaches every surface.
  • Lubricate hinge joints periodically with a water-soluble, steam-penetrable instrument lubricant to keep action smooth and prevent joint wear.
  • Store in an organized cassette or tray with tip protectors where applicable, keeping cutting edges from contacting other metal instruments.
  • Inspect instruments regularly under good lighting (or magnification for fine tips) for early signs of corrosion, dulling, or joint play, and retire or service them before failure occurs.
  • Have instruments professionally resharpened only by a qualified service that maintains the original edge geometry and angle.

How to Make a Warranty Claim

  1. Contact us via WhatsApp, Telegram, or the Customer Support page with your invoice/order number and a description of the issue.
  2. Provide photos or video of the affected instrument(s) clearly showing the defect, along with the batch or product name.
  3. Our team reviews the claim to confirm it falls within the manufacturing-defect warranty and is not one of the excluded causes listed above.
  4. Approved claims are repaired or replaced at no cost; if return shipping is required for inspection, we will provide instructions.
  5. Resolution — most straightforward claims are resolved within a few business days of receiving the required information.
